How Will Glasses Evolve
The future no doubt has some exciting things in store, technology is moving at such a rapid pace that even the most tech savvy gadget geek finds it hard it to keep up. I don’t see the gadgets of today as just gadgets, rather, they are tools for negotiating the digital landscape. I personally believe that glasses will form the lifestyle navigation trend of the future, enhancing our virtual experience of the real world.
Augmented reality is a big buzzword within the tech sphere at the moment and it is beginning to an increased uptake on mobile phones. It refers to the virtual enhancement of the physical world and works on mobile devices by using the phone’s camera to give a picture of what is front of you, layered over with virtual labels and tags that indicate points of interest and their distance from the user’s current location.
This technology ties in neatly with the current social trends in geo tagging, making your location know to your friends and followers. While all this can currently be done on most smart phone handsets the technology could easily be migrated to glasses, using the lenses as screens which also display any information that the wearer requires this could be easy incorporated into sunglasses like the ray ban wayfarer aviator sunglasses.
This kind of technology was elduded to way back in 1991 with the Hollywood blockbuster Terminator 2. In this film the hero, the metal exoskeleton surrounded by human skin, was able to see his environment supplemented with facts and figures displayed in red led characters. While we can be fairly sure that most of us won’t evolve into robotic assassins we may well be using the very same tech used by arnie in the 1991 film.
With the advances in televisions technology, we will all soon need to wear special 3D glasses anyway to get the bets possible experience, these new glasses could also perform this function.
